The muscular system helps our body in a lot of different ways scroll down to read more!
The tissue on the muscle has four main properties:
Excitability- ability to respond to stimuli! That means that it can reply to very active energy in the organ!
Contractibility- ability to contract! This mean that the organ has the ability to decrease in size! WOW
Extensibility- ability of a muscle to be stretched without tearing! This is the opposite of contractibility. This mean if the extend your arm the tissue wont tear and give you an injury.
Elasticity- ability to return to its normal shape! This is like extensibility but a little bit different instead of being able to avoid tearing the means that if you stretch ou your muscle it is able to go back to its original shape without any damage being done! SO COOL
Within the muscular system there are 3 important functions that our muscles preform.
Motion- your muscles allow you to run, walk, hop, skip, jump, kick ,throw etc.
Heat production- Your muscles help you keep a normal tempature which helps you avoid getting overheated or under-heated!
Maintenance of posture- Your muscles can help you with your posture and other things such as, standing, sitting and things like that.
There are two different kinds of muscles: Voluntary and involuntary.
Voluntary muscles are the muscles that let you move when you want. They are under your control. Voluntary muscles are striated meaning they are striped.
Involuntary muscles such as the heart, you don't have any control over these muscles, they work weather you want them to or not. The digestive system is lined involuntary muscle. Involuntary muscles are smooth muscles. The heart is a cardiac but it is striated even though it is involuntary.
Like the rest of your body your muscles are powered by a sugar called glucose. Without a regular amount of glucose the muscles begin to get tired. They need plenty of oxygen or they will cramp up. That is why your muscles can cramp up after you workout.
Healthy foods that will keep your muscles strong and healthy are milk, eggs, and cheese.Any proteins or fiber will also help.
